A decision was taken to fix 1966 as a temporary closing date in respect of documents relating to the government of the Congregation. A major change of structure was implemented in that year, namely, the division of the Congregation into provinces. This change necessitated the use of a temporary closing date to enable the third chapter of the inventory of the Generalate Archives to be completed. In due course the archives of the General Government after 1966, together with the documents concerning the interaction between the General Government and the provincial governments and the interaction between the General Government and the houses depending on the General Government, will be included in the inventory.
