SISTERS OF CHARITY OF JESUS AND MARY

The exhibition

Entering the convent meant leaving the world behind. One renounced all superficialities, family, future family, one’s own household... One received a new name, a new "age" (by rank of profession), a new group in which to live, in fact, a new identity.

Behind the walls of the convent everything was governed by a Rule, determining the pious life of praying and working. Everything seemed so strict and inaccessible. But within these walls there was a lot of life. These pious, hardworking, intelligent, creative women were standing with their two feet in reality.

The exhibition allows you to peep behind the screens. You can see how the Sisters lived - materially, spiritually, organisationally, financially, professionally...

Attention is also paid to the origins of the Congregation and to its historical and cultural heritage. It reflects the multi-cultural diversity of a Congregation that is spread across the world and involved in a variety of services for the betterment of humanity. The exhibition spans a period of over 200 years from 1803 to the present.
